My New Year’s Resolution for 2011

January 7, 2011

My New Year’s Resolution for 2011:

I plan to share all I know and have experienced about macrobiotics through Facebook Notes, my blog, email and through talks, classes and one on one sessions to anyone interested.

The first thing I will share are these points:

1.  Don’t be afraid of food. One of the greatest dangers of macrobiotics, especially in the way it used to be presented, is it’s potential to instill a fear of certain foods in people.

We humans are omnivores. We can eat anything. Instead of fear, learn all you can about food and how it effects you. Enjoy food fully and do not follow any dogma, including macrobiotics, especially if it instills fear and a pre-occupation of food in you.

It’s fine to temporarily follow dietary guidelines and someone’s advice and to take cooking classes to expand your food repertoire but do so only until you have gained enough experience to be free of them. In the end follow your own intuition and your own experiences.

If you like to eat meat then go ahead and do so. If you want to eat raw foods then do that. If you want to eat junk food and GMOs then do that. Discover how eating these foods effect you and then develop your own preferences based on the life you want to lead and who you wish to be but always have no fear. More importantly, enjoy life and do what makes you happy!

2.  Don’t ever judge or criticize others by what they eat or don’t eat.

What people eat is their business. What you eat is yours. In fact, don’t ever judge and criticize people based on anything at all unless they sincerely ask for your opinion and advice.

3.  I am not “macrobiotic” – I am Phiya.

Being me, I have my own food preferences and choices that are mine entirely. Please don’t ask me what I “can” or “can’t” eat. I can eat anything and yet I also prefer to avoid most animal foods and most dairy products. My food preferences do not necessarily represent macrobiotics. I have my own personal preferences. That’s all.

4.  In talking about macrobiotics I do not represent my father, Michio Kushi, nor the Kushi Institute nor anyone else.

If and when I talk or write about macrobiotics it will be from my own understanding, experiences and perspective. Somethings I say may be in agreement with others and somethings may not.

5.  I am not a guru or a master and I never hope to be one either

I am a person with a unique set of experiences and my own perspective on things. In other words, I am just like you and everyone else.

Thank you.
