Day 7 – November 5, 2009
I finished reading Dan Brown‘s “The Lost Symbol“. I like his books and have read them all. They offer a lot of interesting facts and bits of information. Reading this one was a like taking a short crash course in Freemasonry and the history of the buildings in Washington, D.C.. Making a cameo appearance in this book is the sculpture known as “Kryptos” which stands in front of C.I.A. Headquarters. The sculpture was also featured in another Dan Brown book, “Digital Fortress”. What’s fascinating about the sculpture is that it contains an encoded message that the CIA itself, has yet to fully decipher. If you like this type of trivia then you’ll love “The Lost Symbol.” The end of the book was a bit predictable and was a lot like a Hollywood movie – but, hey – what do you expect? (If you like adventure stories about Freemasons then I recommend you see the great 1975 film “The Man Who Would Be King” directed by John Huston, starring Sean Connery and Michael Caine and based on a short story by Rudyard Kipling.)
The rest of the my day was all about writing and more writing. I went to Great Barrington in the evening. On the way home it was snowing – the first snow of the season in the Berkshires.
